In a competitive rental market, you want your application to be approved. Read our top tips for a winning rental application.
1. Be Organised
Organise all the correct documentation you will need. To make it easier, write down a list of documents you will need to bring such as references, the completed application form, pay slips, proof of employment, photo ID, passport and a cover letter. Make sure all of these documents are copied, certified and ready to submit to the agent on the day.
2. Save Time – Apply Online
Thankfully in this day and age, the internet makes everything faster. Avoid applying for rental properties via snail mail, simply click on apply buttons on any property website and fill in their online application forms. This makes everything easier without the hassle of excessive printing, photocopying and stamping – plus the peace of mind knowing that your form will be immediately emailed to the correct person.
3. Make your Application Simple
Only submit the necessary documents. A larger application filled with excessive papers of no relevance can hinder your chances. A streamlined, simple and effective application is a reflection of your character.
4. Be Presentable
You don’t have to get too formal, but look presentable. It shows you are credible and take the application process seriously.
5. Have a Good Attitude
Many others have likely applied to live in the same rental property as you, so be pleasant and easy to talk with. The way you act is a good indicator of how you will behave as a tenant.
8. Follow Up Accordingly
Once you’ve submitted an application and if you haven’t heard anything back 48 hours later, you can send a follow up email to let them know you are interested and happy to provide additional information or references they may need.
