Aussie Living understand that it can be difficult to find the best way to keep on track while you are saving. Here are a few pointers to help you manage your budget and prepare for a home of your own.
Create a dedicated savings account Choose a seperate savings account that offers high interest, low fees and no keycard (so you don't get tempted to spend it out on the town). Start depositing the same amount each week and watch the deposit grow.
Know how much you need to save Identify what you have to spend and what your costs are. Budgeting might not sound like fun, but in the long run you will be amazed with what you can save by knowing what you can spend.
Develop a Budget Identify what you have to spend and what your costs are. Budgeting might not sound like fun, but in the long run you will be amazed with what you can save by knowing what you can spend.
Hide your credit cards Hide your credit cards in a safe place and leave them for emergencies only. By leaving your plastic at home you won't be tempted to use it.
Write a list before you go to the shop You should never go into a store without a strong idea of what you will be buying in there. By sticking to your list you will save all the money you could have spent on purchasing impulse items.
Stay away from buying interest free If you don't have money in the budget to buy that new TV then you shouldn't buy it. Buying interest free seems like a great idea, but it is another debt that could affect your borrowing potential and the time you will need to wait to qualify for a loan. Remember nothing is free, you will need to pay for it one day.
Pack your own Lunch There's no need to buy your lunch every day and rack up your weekly spending. Imagine how much you could save by bringing lunch from home.
Stay in this weekend There's no need to eat out or go to a cinema to have a great time. Have a BBQ at home with friends, or a DVD night, theres so much you can do at home for free.
