First Home Owners Grant increased to $15,000 for 2017
The First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) is an Australian government scheme introduced to assist First Home Buyers in Western Australia purchase their first home. It is a one-off grant payable to first home owners that satisfy all the eligibility criteria.
The West Australian government is offering a once off First Home Owners Grant of $10,000 towards building your new home, which is available to eligible Western Australians building their owner-occupied first home.
As of the 1st of January 2017, the State Government rolled out a temporary increase of $5,000 to the current $10,000 grant which means that all eligible first home buyers building a new home between 1st January 2017 and 31st December 2017 can receive a huge $15,000 towards their build.

Wondering if your applicable? You may qualify for the First Home Owners Grant if you:
- Are 18 years or older
- An Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Never owned a residential property in Australia
- Must occupy the home purchased as a principal place of residence for a continuous period of 6 months commencing within twelve months of completion of the home.
There is currently a cap on the total value of buying or building a home for which the first home owner grant will be payable. The cap limits the total value of properties up to $750,000.
